Viola I. Welton

March 10, 1925 - March 29, 2012

GENEVA – Viola “Vi” Welton, 87, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2012 at Geneva General Hospital. In Keeping with Vi’s wishes there will be no calling hours or services. Burial will be in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery in Oneonta, NY. Memorial Contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Geneva, the Geneva Center of Concern, or the House of John in Clifton Springs, NY. Vi was born in Oneonta, NY on March 10, 1925. She was the daughter of the late John and Viola Miller Indian. She graduated from Oneonta High School and Schenectady Business School. She was employed by General Electric Co. of Schenectady, Washington Electric Co. of Rochester and Syracuse, and was the owner of John E. Vance Company of Geneva, NY. Vi was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Geneva, a life member of Geneva Country Club, Geneva YMCA, Geneva General Hospital Auxiliary, Geneva Historical Society, Zama Temple #14, Finger Lakes Nile Co., and former member of the Geneva Chamber of Commerce where she served on the board of directors for Geneva Growth. She also served on the board of Center of Concern, was a member of the Zonta International, and Woman’s Club of Geneva. She is survived by her loving nieces and nephews: Thomas (Ann) Indian II, Michael (Karen) Indian, John Raillon, John (Dawn) Indian Daugherty, Patricia (Anthony) Peconano, Linda Indian, Sharon (Richard) Walls; and several great nieces and nephews, great-grand nieces and nephews, and great-great grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husbands: Charles E. Geer in 1952 and George Welton in 1990; brothers: Thomas, Charles, and John Indian; sisters: Ruth Whitman and Alice Raillon; a niece; Barbara Ann Madden; and a great-nephew: Martin Indian.
