May 17, 2015
Mary P. DeFazio, 94, longtime resident of Carter Road in Geneva, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse, NY on Sunday May 17, 2015. She is predeceased by her loving husband Carmen in 1989; her parents Vincenza and Peter Sarratori; four sisters: Jean Barr, Bessie Miller, Theresa Riley, and Eva Siclare; five brothers: Joe, Tony, Frank, Peter, and Sam Sarratori. She is survived by her daughter Jeneane (Joe) Ciancaglini of Minoa, NY and son Tom (Kathy) DeFazio of Stuart, Florida; grandchildren: Steve (Christie) DeFazio, Ric (Jennie) DeFazio, Dan DeFazio, Joe (Sheri) Ciancaglini, Kathi (Steve) Cambareri, Kelli (Mike) Gawlikowski, Tom (Kristie) Ciancaglini; eleven great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She is also survived by her brother Dominick Sarratori of North Tonawanda and sister Vicki Matchinsky of Holland, Michigan. Mary will be remembered for her wonderful baked goods which she proudly, generously and lovingly gave to friends and family, as well as for the many family reunions she orchestrated over the years with her funny skits and costumes. She was admired for years for the amazing flowers she planted and her manicured yard, which she nurtured and maintained on her own well into her 80’s. What she lacked in size she made up for with her strong will, determination, independence, physical endurance and pride for a job well done. She lived her life by the motto “where there’s a will, there’s a way”, which she shared with all those close to her. For years Genevans knew Mary as the “walker” as she would walk many miles almost daily politely declining multiple offers for rides. Mary was a loving mother, grandmother and aunt totally devoted to her family and she will be missed dearly. She has taken our love with her and the love she gave us will remain in our hearts forever. “Love is eternal, it never leaves”. Friends may call at the DeVaney-Bennett Funeral Home, 181 N. Main St., Geneva, on Friday, May 22, 2015 from 10 am. till 12 noon. Funeral Services will follow with a prayer service at 12 noon in the funeral home and a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 p.m. in St. Stephen’s Church. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her memory may be made to American Heart Association.
