Mary Elizabeth Cass Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

GENEVA - Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Cass, 93, formerly of Castle Street and Bay Heights Circle, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 23rd, 2013 at Geneva Living Center North with her family by her side. It was Betty's wish that there be no calling hours. Funeral services and burial will be at the convenience of the family in Glenwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions, in Betty's memory may be made to The Linden Shop, 519 Exchange Street, Geneva, NY.14456 or to a charity of your choice. Betty was born in Canandaigua, NY on April 26, 1920. She is the daughter of the late Frederick Russell, Jr. and Jean Gladys (Loss) Russell. Betty graduated from Geneva High School, Class of 1938. She married Frederic (Fritz) T Cass, Jr. in Geneva on December 28, 1942. They celebrated their milestone 68th Wedding Anniversary in 2010. Betty was predeceased by Fritz in 2011. Betty served as the Geneva Department of Public Works as a clerk in the late 1940's. Betty was secretary treasurer of Cass TV from 1960-2000. Betty could identify and replace any needle from any record player with ease. "Mama" Cass, as she was affectionately called, always knew the top 100 Billboard Hit Songs available on 45 records at the time. Betty enjoyed volunteering at the Trinity Episcopal Church Linden Shop and coordinating many of her GHS Class reunions. She enjoyed her family, gardening, cooking, sewing and knitting and a nice glass of wine at the end of the day. Betty knitted thousands of mittens for her children and local charity organizations. Betty was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. Betty is survived by five children and their families: Richard (Peggy), Donald (Mary Rose), and Stephen all of Geneva; Barbara (Vassilios) Pamboukes of Portsmouth, NH; and Joan (David) Rowe of Corning, NY; ten grandchildren (Jean, Ted, DJ, Brian, Kristen, Ralena, Kristina, Stephen, Christopher and Stephen); nine great grandchildren and nieces and nephews Jon (Laurie) Davis of Geneva, Rick (LuAnn) Bishop, Robin Bishop and Marcia Kemp and Charles (Cremia) Watson. Betty was predeceased by her sisters and brother in laws Marion & Walter Davis, Doris & James Watson and nephew Tom Watson.
