GENEVA – Marjorie W. Scherer, 103, of Geneva, passed away on Sunday, November 7, 2021, at the Geneva Living Center North. Friends may call at the DeVaney-Bennett Funeral Home, 181 N. Main St. on Friday, November 12, 2021, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 12, 2021 in St. Stephen’s Church. Burial will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Penn Yan. Memorial contributions, in her memory, may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Marjorie was born in Shortsville, NY and has been a resident of this area all of her life. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Lorenz Walters. She retired from Touhey Insurance in Geneva. Marjorie moved to Penn Yan several years ago and was an active member of St. Michael’s Church where she was a Eucharistic Minister and a past regent of St. Michael’s Catholic Daughters. She served on the Zoning Board of Appeals for the Town of Torrey for over 33 years, a volunteer at Soldiers and Sailors Hospital, and a member of the Penn Yan Women’s Club. An avid golfer, Marge was a member of Lakeside Country Club where she was a former Secretary and Treasurer. She was a volunteer for the LPGA at Corning and Rochester, and a volunteer for the PGA at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester. She is survived by her children Gary (Pat) Scherer, Bruce (Linda) Scherer, Bonnie (Jim) DeVito, Terry (Caron) Scherer, Tom (Connie) Scherer and Robin Scherer; eleven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, four great-great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert; her granddaughter, Jennifer; her grandson, Darin; and several brothers and sisters. The family would like to thank the staff at Seneca Lake Terrace, Geneva Living Center South and North for the excellent care they gave to Marjorie.
