John W. Harber

September 15, 2016

GENEVA- John W. Harber, 93, of Greenhurst Ave., Geneva, passed away Thursday, September 15, 2016 at Geneva General Hospital surrounded by his family. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 20th, at the DeVaney-Bennett Funeral Home, 181 N. Main St., Geneva, NY. A prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 21st, at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Stephen’s Church at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery with full military honors. Memorial contributions, in John’s name, may be sent to the American Cancer Society. John was born in North Tonawanda, NY. He was the son of the late John and Frances Hurdiss Harber. He was a member of the U.S. Army during World War II. John was a carpenter for Chrisanntha Construction Corp. in Gorham, NY. He was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish, the Winnek Post #396 American Legion, and a lifetime member of the Ovid VFW. He enjoyed baseball games at McDonough Park and was an avid baseball fan. He also loved to travel and go on camping trips with his wife, Marguerite. John is survived by his loving wife Marguerite; son Kenneth Harber of Mirrabooka, Western Australia; granddaughter Kristy Jo and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by eight stepdaughters: MaryAnne (Ronald) Patrick of Geneva, NY, Joanne (Dennis) Williams of Alton, IL, Meg (Jeff) Wright of Hartsburg, MO, Kathy (Stacey) Ware of Ovid, NY, Laurene (Carl) Holcomb of Belize, Elizabeth Pasqua of Romulus, NY, Veronica (Gary) Clifford of Titusville, FL, Concetta Pasqua of Albany, NY; 26 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; nephews, John and Matthew, and niece Mary Frances. He was predeceased by his brother, Arthur Harber and his sister Marion Sikora.
