GENEVA – Delfinio “Archie” Archuleta, 94, passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2017, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Canandaigua. There will be no prior calling hours. A military graveside service will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 1, 2017, in Glenwood Cemetery. The Rev. W. James Gerling will officiate. Contributions, in his memory, may be made to a charity ones choice. Delfinio (Archie) was born on June 15, 1922 in Mont Rosa, Colorado. He was the son of Josephine Maria Martinez Archuleta and Amado Archuleta. Archie served his country in World War II and the Korean War in the U.S. Army. He was in the military for twenty-two years in the regular army and eight years in the reserves. He also worked a civilian job at the GSA at Sampson and Seneca Army Depot as military police. Archie retired on July 13, 1962 from the Army at the rank of SP-5. Delfinio was a life member of the DAV and a life member of the Waterloo VFW Memorial Post #6433 as a past commander. He was a member of Winnek Post #396 American Legion in Geneva and NARFE Chapter 1620. Surviving are his sister, Rose Velanada of Albuquerque, New Mexico; step-daughter, Nancy Lathey of Geneva; grandchildren: Edward (Denise) Lathey of Waterloo, Patricia Lathey of Geneva, John (Marianne) Lathey of Seneca Falls, Steven (Mary Kay) Lathey of Geneva and Paul (Theresa) Lathey of Geneva; great-grandchildren: Alicia Derleth, Marc Lathey, Brad Watkins, Hannah Carey, Dannie Lathey, Melissa Lathey, Shawn Lathey, Stephanie Lathey, Brittany (Jamie) Duffy, Ashley Lathey, Paul Lathey II, and Christopher Lathey; great-great-grandchildren: Noah Derleth, Sarah Carey, Holden Carey, Coltin Bailey and Kari Lathey; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Helen Schaffner Archuileta; his parents; his brothers and sisters, Marceino Jr., Robert, Antonio, Richard, Olivana and Alice all of New Mexico; his son-in-law, William Lathey; step-son, Raymond Schaffner Jr.; and great-grandson, Jeremy Lathey - all of Geneva. The family would like to extend many thanks and gratitude to the Canandaigua VA Center for their exceptional care of Archie for the past couple of years.
