Catherine Grace Sloniger

April 1, 1974 - October 17, 2016

GENEVA – Catherine Grace Sloniger, 42, of Geneva, formerly of Youngstown, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Monday October 17, 2016. Friends may call at the DeVaney-Bennett Funeral Home, 181 N. Main St., Geneva on Monday, October 24, 2016, from 10 am until 11 a.m.  Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. on Monday in the funeral home.  The Rev. Deborah Lind-Schmitz will officiate.  Burial will be in Oakland Rural Cemetery, Youngstown, NY on Tuesday. Memorial contributions in her memory, may be made to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, 14 Pennsylvania Plaza, Suite 1710, New York, NY 10122. (www.ocrf.org). Catherine was born April 1, 1974 in Niagara Falls, NY to Sharon (Ziblut) and Edward C. Sloniger III.  She graduated from Niagara Community College with both an AA and AS degree in 1997 and from Oswego State in 1999. Throughout her college career, she performed in several of the theatre productions, while also participating in Oswego State’s orchestra where she played the viola. Catherine enjoyed writing and seemed to have an extraordinary way of articulating herself while at the same time being her own creative self.  As with her writing, the same could be said of her public speaking.  Catherine felt strongly about equality and peace and lobbied in Albany last year to get a bill passed that mirrored this.  After speaking one to one with a local representative, and with the help of others, this bill was passed. Cathy was a wonderful artist and seemed to have such a wondrous ability to make anything beautiful.  She also loved the Buffalo Bills, connecting with her friends and family on Facebook and spending time with her nephews, sister, and brother-in-law. Catherine will be deeply missed by her sister Susan (Sloniger) Reed, her brother–in-law Joseph Reed, nephews Eddie and Andy Reed, her aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.  Catherine is also deeply missed by her loving and faithful cat companion, Megan Louise. Catherine joins her father Edward C. Sloniger III, mother Sharon Sloniger, brother Gary Sloniger, grandparents Helen and Stanly Ziblut, Grace and Bill King, grandfather Edward C. Sloniger II, cousin Beth Kaufman and many beloved cousins and great aunts and uncles.
