GENEVA - Beverly Alvaro Kirk passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 28, 2016 surrounded by her family. Friends may call at the DeVaney-Bennett Funeral Home, 181 N. Main St., Geneva, NY, on Tuesday (May 31) from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday (June 1) at DeVaney-Bennett Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Gorham Cemetery. Surrounded by her family, she succumbed to illness passing through heaven’s gate on May 28, 2016. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Geneva NY and a graduate of Gorham High School Class of 1948. A consummate mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she lived her life loving, caring, providing for, and protecting her family. Her love, passion, courage, strength, patience, selflessness, and perseverance were unwavering. Family holidays were always a big event for her family and friends to gather, share stories, and enjoy her great cooking and hospitality. She will forever remain in our hearts. In high school she was a cheerleader and played clarinet in the high school band. Her love of sports continued, supporting her children and grandchildren where you would see here in attendance at their various events. She enjoyed a variety of music with Jazz and Big Band being her favorite. Perry Como, Tommy Dorsey and Tony Bennett were among her favorites. She loved to dance and the “Jitterbug” was her favorite. She also had a deep passion for reading. Beverly retired from the Geneva City School District where she worked for many years. During her retirement she volunteered for Meals on Wheels, The Finger Lakes Visiting Nurse Service, American Cancer Society, and was always available offering her kindness to her many friends. She worked the voting poles and was a sponsor for Children International. Beverly is survived by her loving family; sons: Michael (Jennifer) of Cape Coral, FL, Frank (Terry Luzzi) of Geneva, Joe (Fonzi) of Canandaigua, Jeffry (Robyn) of Seneca Falls; daughters: Mary Alvaro of Geneva, Julie Alvaro DeAugustine of Lyons, Tammy (Doug) Swarthout of Seneca Castle, Lori Alvaro of Buffalo; sister-in-law: Antoinette (Dominick) D’Ercole of Lyons; niece Donna (Barry) Douglas of Phelps; nephews: Gregory D’Ercole of Sodus, Ron DeAugustine of Syracuse, Patty Alvaro of NYC, The Shaner family of Gorham, and The Kirk family of Geneva; 20 grandchildren; 19 great-children; and beloved cats, Ripley and Sarah.
