Basil Carl Simons

January 12, 1927 - January 15, 2014

GENEVA- Basil C. Simons, 87, passed away peacefully at Strong Memorial Hospital on January 15, 2014 with family at his side. Calling hours and a memorial service will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 134 N. Main Street, Geneva. Basil was born in Woodhull, NY. He was the son of the late Deforest and Iva Thomas Simons. A graduate of Addison, NY high school in 1945, he served in the Army Air Force during World War II, and then received his AAS degree from Alfred State - SUNY College of Technology in 1951. Basil retired as manager of the Agway-Geneva Petroleum plant in 1986 after 35 years of service. He was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church, where he served in several capacities, and a member of the American Legion Winnek Post 396. Basil was also an accomplished bowler and a devoted baseball fan throughout his life. He and Beverly traveled extensively by motor home throughout the United States, visited all 50 states, enjoyed several cruises, toured overseas, loved camping with family and friends at their property in Woodhull, NY, and were avid square dancers. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Beverly (Mose); children Stephen (Jane) of Battle Creek, MI, Suzanne Cooman (Kevin) of Fairport, NY, and David (Teri) of Lexington, NC; ten grandchildren, Emily, Joel, Grace, Spencer, John (Kasey), Gina (Chad), Carson, Colby, Jacob and Haley; two great-grandchildren, Irelynn and Leah; brothers Deforest (Roberta) and Robert (Donna), and sister Joyce; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister Delia and his brother Earl.
